Taking One For The Team

With just two Premier League games left until the Winter World Cup, we take a look at the 20 Premier League players entering the penultimate weekend of football on 4 yellow cards that might well “take one for the team”.

Of those 20 players on yellow cards, 13 of which have played for their country competing in the World Cup. This could well effect your football team, your fantasy football team, or simply just provide you with a bit of extra entertainment whilst watching this weekend’s football.

There’s a long list of players spanning decades who would seem to get booked or sent off the week before Christmas so they got an extra few days off, however this time round there’s the added incentive of being booked and missing a game before or after the World Cup.

Those that receive one more booking will see them unavailable for the next Premier League game. Those booked this weekend will miss the final weekend before the World Cup, whilst those booked during the final weekend will see them miss the first game back following the World Cup (Boxing Day).

The following Premier League players are on four bookings; Chris Mepham (Bournemouth, Wales), Aleksandar Mitrović (Fulham, Serbia), Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton, Argentina), Amadou Onana (Everton, Belgium), Diogo Dalot (Manchester United, Portugal), Harry Kane (Spurs, England), Rodrigo Bentancur (Spurs, Uruguay), William Saliba (Arsenal, France), Gabriel (Arsenal), Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal, Brazil), Fabian Schär (Newcastle, Switzerland), Thilo Kehrer (West Ham, Germany), Joe Worrall (Nottingham Forest), Kenny Tete (Fulham, Netherlands), Adam Smith (Bournemouth), Harrison Reed (Fulham), Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa), Scott McKenna (Nottingham Forest), Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace, England), Steve Cook (Nottingham Forest).

Those with their country listed next to their clubs are players that have represented their county AND their country participating in the World Cup. Those who are set to compete in the World Cup are more likely to pick up a booking in the next game, whether subconsciously or “accidentally on purpose”.
